Burn injuries after car wrecks carry an enormous cost

Especially at high speeds, but in any car accident, there is always a chance that one or more vehicles involved will catch fire.

After all, motor vehicles have fuel, oil and other potentially flammable fluids stored in them because those fluids are necessary for the vehicle to run. Likewise, electric cars carry a risk of catching fire after a car accident.

Finally, many trucks and other commercial vehicles on Texas roads haul cargo that is either flammable or, at best, ignites easily if exposed to flames.

What this means is that anyone involved in a car accident or other motor vehicle accident stands the chance of suffering a burn injury. Depending on the severity and extent of it, a burn can rank up with spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries as among the most serious that a car accident victim can experience.

Victims can suffer life-threatening medical conditions from a burn, and they often will also have to deal with scarring and disfigurement.

The financial costs of treating and recovering from serious burning can be exorbitant. Overall, medical expenses for burns cost $1.5 billion annually for treatment. On the whole, burns cost Americans $5 billion annually.

Granted, not all of these costs are related to burns due to motor vehicle accidents. However, the numbers only go to show how pressing it is for a Houston victim who has suffered a burn injury in a car accident to come up with the money they need in order to recover from their injuries.

If another driver caused an accident that led to a victim's burns, that victim may be able to use a personal injury lawsuit in order to recover compensation.
